How to guarantee Hair transplant success

As the old saying goes: If you're going to do something, do it right the first time. This couldn’t be truer than when it comes to hair transplants. A hair transplant may be an outpatient procedure performed in the doctor's office, but it is still surgery with permanent results. Getting a second or third hair transplant to fix bad results from a prior procedure is expensive, frustrating and aggravating, it should also be unnecessary. Also, a person only has so much donor hair, that once used can never be replaced. Therefore, the fewer surgeries you need to get the more donor hair you have to spare if you need it in the future.

To ensure hair transplant success be realistic about your expectations and know what to expect. In the pursuit of a sale, many clinics may be overzealous in their promises and make assurances that can't be fulfilled. For example, it is unrealistic to think that you will acquire a full head of hair after a transplant, especially if you are completely bald - when realistically speaking what you can expect to achieve is the illusion of a fuller head of hair, an increase in density and more coverage of bald spots. However, you need an experienced hair specialist to achieve these results.

The average cost of a hair transplant may run between $4,000-10,000. Make sure you know exactly what you're getting for your money. Shopping for a hair transplant can be confusing, and comparing prices even more so. Some clinics may charge by the total amount of donor hair that is removed; others by the graft or follicle. Charging by the graft may be deceptive - you don't know how many hairs you will need for the procedure and how many hairs are in each graft. Be aware that less cost can equal less hair density, sparse results and additional surgeries. Agree upon a set price and understand exactly what you will be receiving for that price. Try to achieve as much density as possible in one procedure. Paying by grafts will cost you far more in the end than paying by the amount of hair.

Different doctors have different philosophies. Some surgeons prefer to do multiple procedures over multiple sessions in order to achieve the desired results. Well, they say desired results, but more surgeries means more money. Those $4,000 surgeries aren’t that cheap after you pay for it three times.

Other doctors may prefer to do a larger "mega session," whereby he or she may transplant between 2,500-4,000 follicular unit grafts in one session. Discuss your expectations for the outcome of the surgery with your doctor beforehand. You should be aware that one procedure may not be sufficient to achieve the desired results, but are you a good candidate for multiple procedures? Be open and honest with your doctor and find one who will be open and honest with you.

The best way to ensure a successful hair transplant surgery is to do your research. Check out the surgeon you intend to use, the clinic where you will have your surgery and type of surgery that is best for your hair loss, e.g. the FUT or FUE. Truthfully what it all comes down to is research! Research! Research!
